Green Bins

The Municipality of Brockton is implementing a single-source organics (Green Bin) program this Fall. We’re proud to be first in Bruce County to introduce this program—helping keep food waste out of landfills and turning it into renewable resources:

✅ 45L Green Bin provided
✅ Food scraps and organic materials accepted
✅ Certified biodegradable bags/liners required and will be available at participating businesses

As part of the 2026 Budget, the Municipality is providing Green Bins at no cost to residents of Walkerton that currently receive curbside garbage collection.

Walkerton residents are invited to voluntarily register to receive a green bin at no cost. The first round of registration closed August 28, 2026. Registrations will continue to be accepted, although there may be a delay in your bin delivery.

Green Bin Delivery and Collection

Green Bins will be delivered the week of September 14-18, 2026 to Walkerton residents (that participated in the initial registration).

First Collection Schedule:

  • Walkerton West (West of Yonge Street and Valleyside Drive) - Tuesday, September 22, 2026
  • Walkerton East (East of Yonge Street) - Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Green Bins will be collected on a weekly basis, along with your regular curbside garbage collection.

Mayor Chris Peabody shares information on acceptable items that can be placed in the Green Bins, where to purchase bin liners/bags, and pick up schedules.
