Childcare Programs

Brockton Child Care Centre offers high‑quality, play‑based programs for children 18 months to 12 years, supporting learning, exploration, and growth at every stage.

We offer the following programs:

  • Toddler Program: 18 months to 2½ years
  • Preschool/Kindergarten Program: 2½ years to 5 years
  • Before & After School Program: 4 to 12 years, offered at St. Teresa of Calcutta School and Walkerton District Community School
  • Full‑Day Programs for School‑Age Children: PA Days, March Break, Summer, and selected days during Christmas Break (delivered at St. Teresa of Calcutta School)

Brockton Child Care Centre is also a fully integrated child care environment that welcomes and supports children of all abilities. Through our strong partnership with Bruce County’s Resource Program, Resource Consultants and Speech Pathologists visit regularly to work with children and collaborate with educators to ensure inclusive, individualized support.

Our Toddler Program offers nurturing, full‑day care designed to support busy little explorers as they grow, learn, and discover the world around them. With a focus on movement, sensory exploration, and emerging independence, each day is filled with hands‑on experiences that match toddlers’ natural curiosity and energy.

Children enjoy a wide variety of developmentally appropriate activities, including:

  • Gross motor play to build strength, balance, and confidence
  • Sensory experiences like water play, playdough, textures, and nature materials
  • Crafts and creative activities that encourage fine‑motor development and expression
  • Circle time with songs, stories, and shared experiences
  • Free play that supports problem‑solving, imagination, and social skills

Toddlers receive nutritious morning and afternoon snacks to keep them energized throughout their active day.

Our caring educators provide individualized attention through a 1:5 teacher-to-child ratio, ensuring each toddler feels safe, supported, and ready to explore at their own pace.

Our Preschool Program offers full‑day care in a warm, welcoming environment where growing learners can explore, create, and build the skills they’ll carry into kindergarten. With a balance of structure and flexibility, preschoolers enjoy a day filled with meaningful, play‑based experiences designed to support their curiosity and emerging independence.

Children participate in a wide variety of engaging activities, such as:

  • Puzzles and early cognitive games that support problem‑solving and critical thinking
  • Books and literacy‑rich experiences to build vocabulary, imagination, and early reading habits
  • Dramatic play that fosters creativity, cooperation, and social development
  • Arts and crafts that encourage fine‑motor skills and creative expression
  • Circle time for stories, songs, discussions, and shared learning
  • Outdoor play to build physical skills, confidence, and a love for active exploration
  • Shelf toys and learning centres that promote independent choice, exploration, and discovery

While this program introduces greater structure and school‑readiness activities—such as routines, early numeracy and literacy concepts, and cooperative group experiences—our primary focus remains on maintaining a fun, relaxed, and supportive atmosphere where children feel comfortable and confident.

With a 1:8 teacher‑to‑child ratio, educators can build strong relationships, intentionally guide learning, and provide individualized support as each child grows at their own pace.

Our Before‑ and After‑School Programs at St. Teresa of Calcutta School and Walkerton District Community School are designed to give children a fun, active, and engaging start and finish to their day.

Morning Fun

Children begin their day with a nutritious breakfast snack, available until 7:30 a.m., to fuel their learning. Children enjoy relaxed, free play, choosing from activities that spark creativity and set a positive tone for the day—puzzles, building materials, imaginative play, books, and more—before heading outside to start the school day.

After‑School Adventure

In our after-school program, children join us for a healthy after‑school snack to recharge. The afternoon is packed with exciting, interest‑based activities, including:

  • Outdoor play
  • Crafts and creative projects
  • Puzzles, games, and building materials
  • Books and quiet corners for winding down
  • Toys and activities that encourage teamwork and imagination

To keep kids active, we also make full use of the school gym (when available) and outdoor playgrounds, providing ample opportunities for gross motor play, movement, and energetic fun after a busy school day.

New for 2026!

The Brockton Child Care Centre is offering a limited number of spaces for children in our summer Kindergarten and School-Age Program.

Operating from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, our Summer Child Care Program provides high-quality, licensed child care for families throughout the summer months.  This program offers a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn, play, and build meaningful relationships while maintaining consistent care routines.

Designed for Kindergarten and School-Age children, the program delivers age-appropriate activities that are both fun and developmentally supportive.  Children are encouraged to explore their interests, build social skills and enjoy a balanced summer experience through thoroughly planned programming that supports physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.

All programming is delivered by Registered Early Childhood Educators and operates as a licensed child care program under the Ministry of Education, in accordance with the Child Care and Early Years Act.  This ensures families can feel confident knowing their child is receiving care that meets provincial standards for quality, safety, and well-being.

Brockton Child Care Centre is proud to partner with Bruce County to offer an inclusive, supportive Resource Program for children, families, and educators. Through this partnership, a trained Resource Consultant works directly with our teaching teams to support children’s individual developmental needs and help create responsive, enriched learning environments.

The Resource Consultant collaborates with educators to provide strategies, programming ideas, and individualized support that help all children learn, participate, and thrive. Families are also supported through access to a wide range of helpful materials—including games, toys, books, and resources to support parenting, early development, and learning at home.

Parents are welcome to borrow materials and connect with the Resource Consultant or any staff member at any time. We value working together to ensure every child experiences success, confidence, and a sense of belonging in our programs.

At Brockton Child Care Centre, our daily program is built around children's curiosities, using an emergent curriculum approach to create dynamic, responsive programming. Educators observe children’s interests and use them to plan meaningful, developmentally appropriate activities that spark exploration, creativity, and joy in learning. Through play‑based experiences, children build foundational skills in communication, problem‑solving, social interaction, and self‑regulation—while feeling a strong sense of belonging in their environment.

Each day, children engage in a balanced variety of activities, including:

  • Educational crafts – hands‑on creative experiences that build fine‑motor skills, imagination, and self‑expression.
  • Circle activities – group songs, stories, discussions, and games that support language, social skills, and community connection.
  • Free play – child‑led exploration that encourages decision‑making, problem‑solving, and meaningful peer interactions.
  • Outdoor play and walks – active movement, nature exploration, and opportunities for safe risk‑taking, gross‑motor development, and discovery of the world around them.

By following the children’s lead and offering a rich variety of experiences each day, we create an environment where every child can grow, learn, and thrive at their own pace.
