Press Release: Nomination Day is August 21, 2026 for the 2026 Municipal Election
Brockton, ON, August 4, 2026 – Residents interested in running for Municipal Council or School Board Trustee in the 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections, must file their nomination papers with their local municipality by Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
Eligible candidates can file nomination papers with their local Municipal Clerk during regular business hours until the Nomination Day deadline. Candidates are encouraged to contact their local municipality or visit their local municipal website for nomination forms, election information, and to schedule an appointment to file their papers.
Candidates should be aware of the following requirements:
- Nomination papers must be filed with the applicable Municipal Clerk by 2:00 p.m. on Nomination Day, Friday, August 21, 2026.
- Municipal Council candidates must submit Form 2 – Endorsement of Nomination signed by at least 25 eligible voters.
- Candidates must be registered before spending money on their campaign or accepting campaign contributions.
- A filing fee of $200 for Head of Council candidates and $100 for all other offices is required when submitting nomination papers.
- Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements to run for municipal office and are encouraged to confirm their eligibility before filing nomination papers. For more information, visit your local municipal election website or contact your Municipal Clerk.
Following Nomination Day, Municipal Clerks will review all submitted nominations and will determine whether each candidate meets the qualifications and requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. Candidates whose nominations are certified will be eligible to run in the election. Those whose nominations are rejected will be notified.
The 2026 Municipal and School Board Elections will take place across all municipalities in the Province of Ontario. Voting in municipalities in Bruce County will be conducted using an internet and telephone voting system; paper ballots will not be used.
The voting period will open on Monday, October 19, 2026 and close on Monday, October 26, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to vote early.
