Media Release: Brockton Unveils Community Fish and Launches Find the Fish Walking Adventure

Brockton, ON, July 3, 2026 – Residents and visitors are invited to explore Walkerton in a whole new way this summer with the re-launch of the Fish Art Walking Tour, the unveiling of a brand-new Community Fish sculpture, and the launch of the Find the Fish Walking Adventure.

Located throughout Walkerton, 12 colourful fish sculptures celebrate the community's connection to the Saugeen River, public art, and local history. Participants are encouraged to pick up a free Fish Art Walking Tour brochure - available at the Brockton Municipal Office, Walkerton Library, and several other locations - or download it online to guide their adventure as they discover each unique sculpture.

New this year is the Community Fish, located in the Market Garden. Unlike the other sculptures, the Community Fish celebrates the people who make Walkerton special by featuring photographs submitted by residents enjoying life in the community. From family outings and local events to everyday moments around town, the sculpture is a colourful tribute to community pride and the memories that make Walkerton feel like home.

To celebrate the tour's re-launch, Brockton is also introducing the Find the Fish Walking Adventure. Participants are invited to visit all 12 fish sculptures, snap a selfie with each one, and submit their completed collection for a chance to win the grand prize of $250 in Brockton Dollars, to be drawn at the end of September.

Throughout July and August, additional $25 Brockton Dollars prizes will also be awarded for fun and creative submissions, with categories such as Most Creative Selfie, Best Family Photo, Youngest Explorer, and more. Watch Brockton’s social media pages for these mini contests! Participants are encouraged to share their adventures on social media using #FindTheFishWalkerton and #VisitWalkerton.

The Fish Art Walking Tour has been a recognizable part of the community for more than two decades. Originally launched in 2002 as a regional tourism initiative throughout the Saugeen River watershed region, the project brought together local artists, businesses, and community partners to create a collection of large-scale fish sculptures celebrating the area's strong connection to fishing, the Saugeen River, and local culture.

The fish sculptures were designed by artist Debbie Schenk, fabricated by Freiburger Welding, base-coated by CSN Walkerton Collision, and transformed into vibrant works of art by local artists and graphic designers.

In 2012, many of the sculptures were brought together in Walkerton as part of a renewed tourism initiative highlighting the community's growing reputation as a destination for outdoor recreation and fly fishing. Today, the collection continues to evolve, with the addition of the new Community Fish, and remains one of Walkerton's most distinctive public art attractions.

“The Fish Art Walking Tour is a wonderful example of how public art can tell our story and bring people together,” said Mayor Chris Peabody. “These sculptures have become a unique part of Walkerton’s identity, celebrating our connection to the Saugeen River, the creativity of local artists, and now, through the Community Fish, the people who make our community such a special place. We invite everyone to explore the tour, learn about its history, and create some new memories along the way.”

The Fish Art Walking Tour brochure is available free of charge at numerous locations in Walkerton and includes a map to help participants locate each sculpture throughout Walkerton. Complete contest details, brochure download, and tour information are available on our Fish Art Walking Tour webpage.
