Open air fires are not allowed without permission in accordance with By-Law 2017-034 Open Air Burn. Recreational fires for the purpose of warmth or cooking are allowed without a permit.
Burn permits are required for the following types of burns:
- Any person who is actively farming land and who wishes to set or maintain a fire incidental to the farm use;
- To set or maintain a fire such as burning a derelict building or a large brush pile.
If you would like to apply for a burn permit, please contact the Municipal Office to request your permit with advanced notice. A fee applies for burn permits.

If you are actively farming land and want to set or maintain a fire incidental to farm use, you must contact the Municipal Office at least 24 hours before setting the fire. Permission to burn a fire incidental to farming, is issued for a maximum of two consecutive days. If weather postpones you from burning on your permitted days, please call back to request another permission. Once a permit is authorized, notification is sent to the By-Law Enforcement Officer and Fire Chief. Please note: A fire or burn permission may be cancelled at any time by the Chief Fire Official, or designate, and immediately upon receiving notice of such cancellation the permitted individual shall extinguish any fire started under the permit. | Burning Large Brush Piles, or Derelict Buildings |

A burn permit may be issued to Brockton residents to burn a derelict building or large pile of brush. A fee applies for burn permits, and additional fees will apply for mileage for site inspections. Burn permits can be requested at least 24 hours before setting the fire. Burn permits are issued for one pre-determined day and one alternate date depending on weather or other conditions. If weather postpones you from burning on your permitted days, please call back to request another permission. Once a permit is authorized, notification is sent to the By-Law Enforcement Officer and Fire Chief. An appointment will also be made with the Fire Chief or designate to conduct an inspection of the site. Every person who contravenes any provision of the Open Air Burn By-Law is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine under the Provincial Offences Act.
