Press Release - Mayor Chris Peabody Receives Long-Standing Service Award for 25 Years on Brockton Council
Brockton, Ontario (December 10, 2025) - The Municipality of Brockton is pleased to announce that Mayor Chris Peabody received the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Long-Standing Service Award for his 25 years on Brockton Council. Chris Peabody was first elected to Brockton Council in 2000 and went on to serve five consecutive terms as Councillor (2000–2003, 2003–2006, 2006–2010, 2010–2014, 2014–2018) before being elected Mayor in 2018. He is currently serving his second term as Mayor (2018–2022, 2022–present), and also represented the region as Warden of Bruce County from 2023 to 2024.
Throughout his career, Chris has been a steadfast advocate for the residents of Brockton. He joined Council during a pivotal time in the Municipality’s history, following the amalgamation of the former Township of Brant, Township of Greenock, and Town of Walkerton, as well as in the aftermath of the Walkerton Water Crisis. Drawing on his environmental background, Chris championed clean water initiatives and worked to ensure strong safeguards were implemented to prevent future tragedies. His leadership was equally evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he demonstrated calm, consistent, and compassionate leadership - providing timely updates and clear communication to keep residents informed, connected, and supported.
Although serving as an elected official is often considered a part-time role, Chris has always approached his responsibilities as a full-time commitment. Over the past 25 years, he has served on numerous Committees and Boards, advocating for both Brockton’s rural and urban communities. Through collaboration with leaders across Bruce County, Chris has built lasting partnerships and championed regional improvements that benefit all residents. His work has advanced key priorities such as housing development, waste diversion initiatives, and strengthening the local healthcare system. Chris has also been a strong voice for essential community services—including healthcare, childcare, housing and homelessness supports, newcomer assistance, mental health services, and long-term care homes.
Chris has played a vital role in Brockton’s growth and the creation of a welcoming, vibrant community that people are proud to call home. He has supported new housing and commercial projects, celebrated and championed local businesses, and contributed to the ongoing expansion of the East Ridge Business Park. His commitment to inclusivity is reflected in his efforts to build meaningful relationships with neighbouring Indigenous communities, promotion of welcoming community initiatives, and personally engaging in and learning through participation in multicultural events throughout the Municipality and region. Chris continues to prioritize access to critical infrastructure and community resources to ensure a sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive future for all residents.
As a former educator, Chris deeply values lifelong learning and youth engagement. He has helped expand local high school co-op programs and has been a strong advocate for local training opportunities in the skilled trades—particularly in agriculture, construction, and manufacturing—to support workforce growth and economic development across Brockton.
Please join us in celebrating Mayor Chris Peabody’s 25 years of dedicated service to the Municipality of Brockton. His leadership, passion, and unwavering commitment continue to strengthen our community and inspire a shared vision for Brockton’s future.
