Media Release - Municipality of Brockton & Edificio announce Walkerton McDonald’s and MacEwen gas bar
Brockton, ON, February 23, 2026 – The Municipality of Brockton and project developer Edificio are pleased to announce significant progress on a new integrated food, retail, and fuel development at 2 Ontario Road in Walkerton.
The project will feature a 5,900 sq. ft. McDonald’s quick-service restaurant and a 2,000 sq. ft. MacEwen convenience store, along with a four-pump retail gas bar. This strategic investment will enhance access to essential services, strengthen local infrastructure, and support continued economic growth in Brockton and the surrounding area.
When the site opens in late summer or early fall, it is expected to create approximately 15 part-time and full-time jobs for local residents. Construction is also supporting local trades and suppliers throughout the build.
“This development addresses service gaps within the immediate catchment area by bringing food, retail, and fuel services together in one convenient location,” said Matthew Young, Senior Project Manager with Edificio. “Improved access to fuel and everyday essentials will enhance convenience and safety for Brockton residents, while reducing the need to travel to neighbouring communities.”
With a total project value of $3.85 million, the development represents a significant private-sector investment in Brockton and aligns with the municipality’s strategic priorities for sustainable rural development, infrastructure enhancement, and economic diversification.
“This project represents a meaningful investment in Brockton’s future,” said Mayor Chris Peabody. “By expanding access to essential services and strengthening our commercial base, we are supporting residents and local businesses while building long-term economic resilience.”
Construction is currently in the initial excavation and site preparation phase. All required building and foundation permits have been secured through Bruce County, and the project remains on schedule with a target completion in late summer 2026.
“We are proud to partner with the Municipality of Brockton on a development that delivers both economic opportunity and essential infrastructure,” added Young. “It’s a strong example of how thoughtful commercial growth can support rural communities.”
