Brockton community stands in solidarity with Hanover and West Grey following tragedy
Brockton, ON, November 12, 2025 – The Municipality of Brockton has lowered its flags to half-mast in recognition of the devastating motor vehicle accident yesterday involving four students from John Diefenbaker Senior School (JDSS) in Hanover. Three of the students tragically lost their lives, and one remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“We are heartbroken to hear of this tragedy,” said Mayor Chris Peabody. “On behalf of Brockton Council, staff, and residents, we extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, classmates, and educators who are grieving this unimaginable loss. Our thoughts are also with the first responders and medical professionals who have been touched by this heartbreaking event.”
As a community that has experienced significant loss, Brockton recognizes the depth of grief that follows such a tragedy and the compounded effect for area families. The Municipality joins the broader region in mourning, extending compassion and support to all those affected — including families, friends, classmates, and educators who are navigating this difficult time.
The Municipality extends its deepest sympathies and wishes strength and comfort to the injured student, their loved ones, and mourns with all who are touched by this heartbreaking event.
