As of May 1, 2025, the Government of Ontario expanded strong mayor powers to the Municipality of Brockton. As part of the strong mayor powers, Mayor Peabody has a duty to prepare and propose the budget before February 1st. As part of the process, the Mayor’s budget is subject to Council amendments, a Mayoral veto and Council override. The 2026 Municipal Budget includes a total tax rate increase of 2.64% and a total levy of $13,624,278. On the average household assessment this results in a $89.27 yearly increase, or a $7.44 monthly increase.
This year’s budget was developed with a focus on maintaining our essential services, recognizing the economic challenges facing our residents, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our growing community.
