HomeOur ServicesDepartmentsOperations

The Operations Department is responsible for the maintenance of Brockton roads, bridges and sidewalks, municipal trees, streetlights and storm drains as well as manages our Utilities, including Water and Sewer.

The safety of our roads and infrastructure is very important to us. If you have a question or concern, please feel free to contact us.

 Roads

The Municipality of Brockton maintains 442 of the almost 600 kilometres of roads within the municipality.

If the municipality does work on municipal property and this affects your driveway or landscaping, our Repairs and Replacement of Encroachments on Road Allowance Policy identifies who is responsible for repairing or replacing these encroachments.

 911 Signs
The Operations Department is also responsible for assigning 911 numbers to properties within Brockton. Property owners are responsible for ordering, installing, maintaining and replacing these signs as needed. Please contact us, by phone (519-881-2223) or by email, to order your sign. We will notify you when the sign is ready. Posts and signs can be picked up at the municipal office.
  • 911 Signs: $35.00 each
  • 911 Posts: $30.00 each

To order a sign online, please submit the Order 911 Sign form. Please note, if your property currently does not have a 911 number assigned, you will need to contact John Strader to have one assigned.

 Mailboxes
The Municipality shall make every endeavor to not make direct contact when performing maintenance activities near and around any mailbox, and in order to assist with this, the municipality has some minimum standards written out in the policy for placement of mailboxes and materials.

Our Mailbox Policy outlines the placement of, type of materials to be used and who is responsible for mailboxes in Brockton.

Dust Control

Dust suppressants are applied once annually to rural roads to assist in controlling dust. Dust suppressants do not create a driving surface. Effectiveness of dust suppressants are maximized when moisture is present for the calcium chloride to bond with, and to create a seal on the surface of the gravel road. When moisture is not present, due to prolonged dry periods, the effectiveness of the dust suppressants can be reduced.

Suppliers of dust suppressants generally do not recommend reapplication during dry periods. Without the presence of appropriate moisture, the products are found not to perform as desired, and therefore, do not represent value for the expenditure. The Municipality regularly reviews application rates. Adjustments have been made based on factors such as traffic volume, road base and past performance.

 Winter Maintenance and Snow Removal
The following policies guide our winter maintenance and snowplowing activities:
  • Winter Maintenance on Rural Roads and Urban Streets Policy
  • Snow Removal Policy for Downtown Walkerton Business Core and Hamlets Policy
