The Operations Department is responsible for the maintenance of Brockton roads, bridges and sidewalks, municipal trees, streetlights and storm drains as well as manages our Utilities, including Water and Sewer.

Roads | ||||||||||||
The Municipality of Brockton maintains 442 of the almost 600 kilometres of roads within the municipality. If the municipality does work on municipal property and this affects your driveway or landscaping, our Repairs and Replacement of Encroachments on Road Allowance Policy identifies who is responsible for repairing or replacing these encroachments. Bridges and Culverts | ||||||||||||
The municipality maintains more than 38 bridges and culverts over 3 meters wide throughout the municipality, each are inspected bi-annually. There are 20 structures within the former Township of Brant, 19 structures within the former Township of Greenock and 11 within the down of Walkerton
Over the next number of years, there will be a number of bridge projects related to rehabilitation, repairs or replacement.

Sidewalks | ||||||||||||
Brockton Roads Department staff work to maintain sidewalks in Walkerton and Brockton Hamlets. Each year the Municipality determines the sections of sidewalk in Walkerton that will be sanded, salted and plowed by Roads department staff. Our Winter Maintenance of Sidewalks Policy identifies the sidewalks that will be maintained in the winter by list and map. |

Parking | ||||||||||||
Many Brockton streets permit parking on the street, for a full list and all parking restrictions, please review the Consolidated Traffic and Parking By-Law 2020-052. There are four municipal parking lots within downtown Walkerton that are open to the public. Winter parking is strictly prohibited on every street from 2:00am to 6:00am from November 1st to April 30th, every year for snow removal and maintenance. Vehicles may be ticketed and / or towed at the owners expense. Streetlights |

The majority of the streetlights in Brockton are the responsibility of municipal staff. If you notice a street light not working or working at an inappropriate time, for example, during the day, please contact the office at 519-881-2223 or fill out the form below: Note: traffic lights are under the jurisdiction of the Bruce County Transportation and Environmental Services Department and any issues with the lights should be reported to them at 519-881-2400. |

Trees |

Trees provide natural benefits to improve the visual appearance of our parks, cemeteries, road sides and boulevards. Municipal staff work to maintain the trees on municipal lands, including road allowances on an as needed basis. If there is a tree or partial tree issue on a municipal road allowance that needs to be reviewed, please contact the office at 519-881-2223 or fill out the form below: Note: only trees that have been determined as needing to be removed by the municipality and is within municipal property will be removed at the municipality’s expense. If the tree is found to be on private property, the owner of the property is responsible for the removal of the tree. Adopt a Highway Program |

We encourage Brockton residents to play a part in keeping our Municipal Highway System clean and free of litter through our Adopt a Highway Program. Individuals, private businesses, or local organizations may choose to volunteer to adopt a municipal highway and agree to pick up litter a minimum of three (3) times a year. Roadways may be adopted in the name of a business or service club, or may be adopted in honour, or in memory, of an individual. Waste Management and Recycling |

Brockton operates the Brant Landfill, Greenock Transfer Station, Walkerton Recycling Depot and the Walkerton/Hanover Landfill (in partnership with the Town of Hanover). This includes household and commercial waste, recycling and waste diversion programs as well as curbside collection throughout the municipality. We encourage all residents to utilize each of the waste diversion opportunities available, which will keep the landfill clear of materials that can be recycled and reused.
