The Municipality of Brockton is conducting Municipal and School Board Elections in October. The 2022 Election will occur by internet and telephone vote. The voting period will be open from Monday, October 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. until Monday, October 24, 2022 (Voting Day) at 8:00 p.m.
Brockton Voters will elect for the following offices: (1) Mayor, (1) Deputy Mayor, (5) Councillors, and School Board Trustees. Nominations for these positions open May 2, 2022. Who can be a candidate? / Candidate Information |
- A resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
- A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
- Not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
- You will need 25 original signatures on your nomination form and must pay a fee of $100 ($200 for Mayor).
In municipal elections, candidates are not elected to represent a political party such as Federal or Provincial elections.
Each Candidate must file Form 1 - the Nomination Form and Form 2 - the Endorsement of Nomination Form.

Who can vote in Municipal Elections? / Voter Information
|
Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is:
- 18 years of age or older
- a Canadian citizen; and
- either a resident of the municipality or a property owner or tenant or the spouse or same sex partner of an owner or tenant in the municipality during a specified time just before the election.
Your name must be on the Voters’ List in order for you to cast a ballot.
If you are not on the Voters’ List, or if your information is incorrect you may apply to have your name added or your information corrected.
This may be done until the close of voting on voting day in a regular election or by-election. You may have your name added to the Voters’ List at the voting place.
Visit Voterlookup.ca, a website owned by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) responsible for identifying eligible electors, to confirm that you are on the Preliminary List of Electors.

- Nomination and Registration Begins – May 2, 2022
Candidates can file their nomination papers with the Clerk during regular office hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
- Election Information Session (for Candidates) - June 23, 2022

- Nomination Day – August 19, 2022
On Nomination Day, nominations may only be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. If a person is present at the Clerk’s office on Nomination Day at 2:00 p.m. and has not yet filed the nomination, they may file the nomination as soon as possible after 2:00 p.m. A candidate that wished to withdraw their nomination must notify the Clerk in writing before 2:00 p.m.
- Voting Period - October 17 to 24, 2022
Electors can vote anytime from 10:00 a.m. on October 17th until 8:00 p.m. on October 24th using internet or telephone voting, or by visiting the Municipal Office.
- Election Day - October 24, 2022
Electors are encouraged to vote anytime during the voting period, or can vote on Election Day until 8:00 p.m. On Election Day, voting places will be set up at the Municipal Office, Cargill Community Centre and Elmwood Community Centre. Electors can also still vote by internet or telephone.
- Inaugural Council Meeting - November 15, 2022
The new Council will be sworn in at an Inaugural Council Meeting to begin their four-year term.
