Barrier Free Community Garden Project |
Phase 1On Saturday, November 3, 2018 volunteers installed Ecoraster pavers at the Community Garden to create a level entrance and a level area to install accessible garden beds in the future. Ecoraster pavers are a permeable ground stabilizing / paving solution that allows for natural drainage without producing harmful runoff. First the area was leveled with an excavator and the addition of a gravel layer. The Ecoraster was clipped together and installed and then a layer of pea gravel was raked into the Ecoraster pavers to create a level, permeable surface. This is an amazing example of local recycling in action. The film plastics that Brockton residents recycle (Brockton.ca/FilmPlastics) is sent to EFS Plastics in Listowel where it is melted into pellets and then shipped to another Listowel manufacturer just 2 km away, Purus North America, who manufactures Ecoraster products from this 100% recycled plastic! Thanks to the volunteers and our partners, Grey Bruce Sustainability Network, Bruce Power, Walkerton Action Committee, who made Phase 1 possible on Saturday! Special thanks to the Walkerton Action Committee who raised $950 at their All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti fundraiser on October 29 at Pizza Delight in Walkerton! Photo Gallery: Phase 1 - Barrier Free Community Garden Project Complete will appear here on the public site.
Phase 2Phase 2 of this project will include applying for grants to install accessible garden beds to give more people the opportunity to garden in this community space. Tax deductible donations to this project can be made to the Municipality of Brockton Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) Barrier Free Community Garden Project. |
