Mayor Chris Peabody

Mayor Chris Peabody

Chris Peabody has lived in Brockton for over 31 years. Chris was first elected as Mayor in 2018 and was first elected as a Councillor in 2000. Chris has served five terms as Brockton Councillor and has sat on various Committees and Boards including Elmwood Fire Department Joint Board of Management, Police Services Board, Bruce Area Solid Waste and Recycling Board, Environmental Advisory Committee, Walkerton Hanover Waste Management Committee, and the Bruce Power Regional Soccer Park and Walkerton Ice Pad Fundraising Committees. 
 
In 2018 Chris retired from a 31 year teaching career where he taught Geography and Co-operative Education and served as Department Head of Guidance. 

Deputy Mayor James Lang

Deputy Mayor James Lang

In 2007, James began his career in funeral service at Cameron Funeral Home in Walkerton. He received his professional training at Humber College in Toronto and had the privilege of completing his internship at R.S. Kane Funeral Home in North York. Since then he had the opportunity to be a member of the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home team in Waterloo as well as the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Homes in Centre Wellington.

In December 2015, James left funeral service after obtaining his firefighter certification through Conestoga College in Kitchener. Although he is now a Firefighter at Bruce Power, James still holds his Funeral Director License and helps funeral homes in the area as needed. 

James served two years on the Elmwood Fire Department and is currently an Acting Captain with the Walkerton Fire Department. James is also a Level 5 Hockey Canada Official, refereeing in the Ontario Hockey Association and the Ontario University Athletics – Men’s Hockey. 

In 2015 to 2016, James had the opportunity to sit on the Municipal Services Review Committee which sparked his interest in municipal politics. 

Growing up on a farm near Elmwood, and now living in Walkerton, James is honoured to represent such a great municipality and proud to call Brockton home.

Councillor Mitch Clark

Councillor Mitch Clark

Mitch is a lifelong resident of Brockton, currently residing in Walkerton. He holds an honours bachelor’s and master’s degree in computer science, with a minor in business. Mitch was the assistant student chair of the department and produced literature publications in the field of artificial intelligence. Previously teaching at one of Canada’s premier private schools, Ridley College, Mitch’s focus on community service transpired. He now works as a database analyst at a local insurance company.

Mitch’s experience and education are in the field of optimization. He prides himself in finding unique and novel approaches to reducing expenses in ways that promote economic growth. As an expert in technology and data, Mitch is ready to steer the municipality toward a more prosperous future. Focusing on our community, and building a Brockton we are proud of is at the forefront of his vision.  

Mitch is eager to serve the municipality of Brockton and hopes to make use of his education, skillset, and deep roots in Brockton to elevate this community.

Councillor Tim Elphick

Councillor Tim Elphick

Tim is a lifelong resident of Brockton. He grew up on a farm in the Cargill area and now resides in Walkerton with his wife, son, and daughter.

Tim holds an undergraduate degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Geography and Business and continues studies at the University of Waterloo in the field of conflict management and dispute resolution.

Following nearly a decade long career in the Ontario Public Service, Tim is actively employed in a professional labour relations role advocating and representing the interests of public sector employees.

Tim is excited to share his youthful insight and perspective as a young family to ensure Brockton remains competitive and attractive community of choice for commerce and residents. Most importantly, Tim is eager to continue serving the people of Brockton!

Councillor Kym Hutcheon

Councillor Kym Hutcheon

Kym Hutcheon was born and raised in Toronto where she attended Humber College for Fashion and Interior Design. For a portion of her career Kym worked in the City of Etobicoke Tax Department. Once her children arrived, Kym then ran her own interior design business. Kym's family moved to Walkerton in 1998 where they purchased and renovated an old Victorian home on Colborne Street.  Kym's children consider themselves Bruce County Kids. Three of her four children live and work in Bruce County with her seven grandchildren. Her son is serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry stationed in Manitoba. Kym served as Councillor in the 2010 to 2014 Council Term and the 2018 to 2022 Council Term.

In 2014 Kym opened the historic Chepstow Inn after extensive renovations. It was formally known as the King Eddie Hotel. The Inn provides accommodation to visitors from around the globe and has a Five Star rating. Kym is also an avid history buff and genealogist and has helped many people research their family history. Kym loves living in Brockton and plans to be here for many years.

Councillor B. Carl Kuhnke

Councillor B. Carl Kuhnke

Carl Kuhnke lives in Walkerton with his wife Beth and their two rescue dogs Pippin and Zoe. He retired as CEO of the Walkerton Clean Water Centre in April of 2022.

After graduating from the University of Alberta with a BSc in biology and a Masters’ degree in Business, he spent two decades in the Canadian diplomatic service, leaving to create several technology start-ups across Canada. He returned to public service in 2013 as the CEO of Saskatchewan’s Centre of Excellence for Infrastructure and came back to Ontario in 2017 after a nation-wide search for a new CEO for the Clean Water Centre. There he led WCWC’s new First Nations drinking water initiatives and expanded the Centre, purchasing four acres of land from Brockton for the Centre’s future needs.

Carl founded Saugeen Hospice in 2021 and maintains his interest in having a hospice closer-to-home. He sits on the Brockton Police Services Board, is a member of the Brockton Economic Development Committee, and was previously a Director of the Board of the South Grey Bruce Health Centre.

In their spare time Carl and Beth volunteer for juvenile diabetes initiatives, and mentor insulin pump users in Brockton and across Canada. Both type I diabetics, they wear life-saving insulin pumps. Beth co-led the “Canada Sews” initiative in Grey-Bruce which sewed hundreds of thousands of masks and gowns for hospitals, libraries, and long-term care homes.

Councillor Gregory J. McLean

Councillor Gregory McLean

Gregory (Greg) McLean is originally from Georgetown and moved to Walkerton in 1993 to take a short term teaching contract that led into full time employment and staying in the area permanently after meeting the love of his life, Jayne. They have 3 children who were born and raised in Walkerton: Abby, Lucas and Dashiel. 

He recently retired from a 30 year career in education with the last half of that time being an elementary school principal. He completed his BA at York, Teachers’ College at Lakehead and has a Masters in Educational Leadership from Niagara. Most recently Greg earned a Certificate in Positive Psychology from Laurier as well as a Life and Wellness Coaching Certification.

Greg is into the local arts and culture scene and has performed with various musical groups including the KungFu Lawyers and Big Shiver. He is an active patron and volunteer with the Victoria Jubilee Hall. 

And he even has a podcast called , A Slice of Brockton, promoting local voices making a difference in the Municipality. Greg also is a member of the Curling Club, Sing! Show Chorus and has coached special Olympics- If the weather is fair, you might find him on the local golf course as well.

As Councillor, Greg desires for wellness and working for the common good with the goal of maintaining Brockton’s high quality of life. He is excited to begin the work in Brockton’s new council.
