Community Development Projects

Brockton has a caring and welcoming community who have aided in the development of recent projects such as the Walkerton and District Optimist Club Accessible Park, and the Market Garden.

The Municipality develops community development projects to support our local businesses, and individuals who serve the betterment of our community, such as service clubs and volunteers.

Visit our Community Improvement Plan page to learn more about the current financial supports offered.

We will keep you informed as more community development projects become available! Contact our Economic Development Department, which includes our Chief Administrative Officer, Sonya Watson and our Community Development Coordinator, Christine Brandt.

Current Projects

In early 2025, members of the Cargill business community approached municipal staff to express interest in developing a similar sub-brand for Cargill. A key motivator for this request is a requirement under the Spruce the Bruce program that each settlement area must have a defined community brand and associated guidelines to be eligible for certain grants. In response, Brockton Council has approved the development of sub-brands for Cargill, Chepstow, and Elmwood.

Please visit our Hamlet Community Logos webpage to cast your vote for your preferred logo for Cargill, Cheptow, and Elmwood. Voting closes June 20, 2025.

Project Outline: Bring Back the Excitement – Help Install a New Diving Board at Centennial Park Pool!

Location: Centennial Park Pool – 1 James St, Walkerton, ON

Project Summary

Centennial Park Pool has long been a summertime staple in Walkerton, offering fun, fitness, and community engagement for all ages. In recent years, however, visitors have expressed a strong desire to see the return of an exciting feature that once thrilled swimmers of all ages—the diving board.

Due to age-related wear, the previous diving boards were removed during the COVID-19 pandemic. A professional assessment confirmed that the lower diving board had reached the end of its usable life and recommended its replacement to enhance the pool experience.

In response to growing public interest and multiple community requests, we are launching a fundraising initiative to install a brand-new diving board at Centennial Park Pool for the 2025 summer season!

Project Goals

  • Reintroduce the diving board to enhance recreational opportunities for all ages.

  • Increase community engagement and attract more visitors to the pool.

  • Promote health, fitness, and fun through aquatic recreation.

  • Foster local pride in Brockton's recreation facilities.

Why It Matters

  • The diving board has historically been one of the most loved features of the pool.

  • With limited recreational facilities for youth in the area, restoring this element brings excitement and energy back to the pool.

  • Community feedback has been clear: people want it back!

  • This initiative is about more than just a diving board—it’s about restoring a beloved community asset.
