About the Position:

The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants to apply for a full-time position of Lead Hand. The Lead Hand will provide daily supervision, leadership and guidance to Public Works Department and provide a variety of construction, snow/ice removal maintenance and repair service to roads and adjacent public property for the safety and convenience of the public.

Candidates must be self-motivated, flexible, exhibit superior time management capabilities have the ability to supervise employees.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides on-site supervision and assistance, providing leadership, assigning work and ensuring the work is carried out as efficiently as possible to meet expenditures as directed by management.
  • Attends courses required for the performance of duties.
  • Ensures crews have filled out timesheets and deliver them to municipal office.
  • Interprets drawings and instructions issued by management.
  • Patrols roads and records non-compliance issues as per regulations to the Minimum Maintenance Standards.
  • Performs all duties of a Heavy Equipment Operator when required to do so.
  • Responsible for underground utility locates.
  • Ensures compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Adhere to and enforce the Municipality’s Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment effectively, safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of equipment and its capability. Ability to identify operating problems.
  • Good judgement, ability to work well with others and to provide leadership.
  • Good physical condition and ability to function effectively in stressful situations.
  • A minimum of five years experience in municipal road maintenance, roads construction methods and procedures, drainage, equipment maintenance and sidewalks.
  • Holds a valid Class “A” or “D” drivers licence with air brake endorsement.
  • Has effective communications skills, both oral and written to deal with the public and internal and external parties.
  • Has a minimum of five years experience in the operation and maintenance of municipal owned equipment.
  • OGRA Road School considered an asset.
  • Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) designation or ability to work towards Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) designation.
  • Possesses the skills and ability to operate the municipality’s portable computerized hardware and associated software used as part of patrolling duties.
  • Knowledge of proper use of common hand tools.

About the Position:

The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the Seasonal Part-Time Food Booth Attendant position. This position will be starting in September 2025 and conclude no later than April 2026. This position is responsible for operating the Walkerton Arena Food Booth by preparing and serving the posted menu items. There is the ability to cross train as a Facilities Maintainer and work in both roles for the winter.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Food preparation
  • Cooking by use of Deep Fryers, Microwaves and Griddles
  • Customer Service
  • Cash handling, balancing end of shift float
  • Cleaning the booth facility on an ongoing basis during service and after close
  • Taking inventory
  • Restocking supplies
  • Working cooperatively with others to ensure all required tasks are completed on a daily basis daily basis

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Attending high school is a minimum requirement.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, variable shifts including nights and weekends.
  • Safe Food Handling or ability to obtain
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Student rate - $18.25 – $19.25 depending on qualifications and experience.
  • General rate - $18.95 – $19.95 depending on qualifications and experience.

About the Position:

The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Teacher (8 Month Contract) position. The ECE Teacher provides a full range of child care services to children from the ages of 18 months to 12 years of age.

The Municipality of Brockton will accept applications from Non-Registered Early Childhood Educators (Non-RECE) as long as the applicant has the qualifications/knowledge/skills required for the position.

Candidates must be self-motivated, flexible, energetic and have the ability to build trust and positive relationships with children and their families.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teaches gross motor skills, dramatic play, use of senses and science.
  • Supervises children in a variety of settings such as out of doors, in the classroom and in the sleep room.
  • Encourages children to participate, play cooperatively, problem solve, share and learn about safety.
  • Integrates separate individual programs for special needs children in with the regular program.
  • Assists with planning and organizing special events, field trips and parties.
  • Assists children with hygiene activities.
  • Responds to telephone enquiries, giving out information and taking messages.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma, or Child and Youth Studies or Equivalency is considered an asset.
  • Registered member of the College of ECE is considered an asset but is not a requirement.
  • Experience in the Child Care field is considered an asset.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to follow direction and work independently.
  • Valid First aid/CPR.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check.

About the Position:

We are currently hiring for multiple Heavy Equipment Operator positions including winter seasonal and weekend-only roles to support our operations during the winter months. Reporting to the Operations Manager and assigned Lead Hand, the Heavy Equipment Operator operates and maintains Heavy Equipment and performs all related Public Works duties for the maintenance, construction, and operation of Municipally owned and operated infrastructure and facilities.

Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the roads department, including working early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Carries out work assignments, using a variety of heavy equipment and other vehicles, power and hand tools, including physically demanding and repetitive manual labour as directed by the Lead Hand or Roads Supervisor, including but not limited to Snow Plow Truck, Sidewalk Plow, Motor Grader, Backhoe, Dump Truck and Floating Heavy Equipment.
  • Responsible for snow and ice removal on public roadways, sidewalks, and parking lots, often in the early morning hours, for long consecutive hours, and during unfavourable road and weather conditions.
  • Assists with construction projects and paving/ resurfacing preparation.
  • Repairs and installs road and street signs
  • Repairs and installs culverts
  • Operates chain saws, mowers, wood chipper and other equipment to cut trees, clear brush and cut grass in a variety of locations, including but not limited to public access roadways.
  • Performs grave opening and closing at the Cemetery with a backhoe and hand tools.
  • Responds to Emergency call-outs at any time of day or night (eg. road closures, downed trees, flooding events, assisting Emergency Responders)

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Applicant must be able to report to the Walkerton, Greenock or Brant Shop within 30 minutes of being called.
  • Holds a Valid Ontario Drivers Class AZ or DZ License with a clean drivers abstract.
  • Minimum grade 12 Education or equivalent education.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and operation of heavy equipment.
  • Experience in operating snow plow, grader and back hoe an asset.
  • Ability to drive in difficult driving conditions for long periods of time.

  • Seasonal Employees – Contract from November 17, 2025 to April 26, 2026, 24 hours per week, potential for additional hours and overtime, ability to enroll in OMERS pension plan.
  • Weekend Employees – Starting November 17 to April 26, up to 16 hours per weekend, ability to enroll in OMERS pension plan.
    Rate of pay between $29.01 - $33.95 depending on qualifications and experience.
