In 1999 "Brockton" was chosen as the name of the new amalgamated municipality using a combination of the names of the former municipalities, Brant, Greenock & Walkerton. With a population approaching 10,000 residents, Brockton provides a wealth of opportunities for business, arts and recreational pursuits. Rich agricultural lands; commercial and industrial outlets, the East Ridge Business Park and the Saugeen Municipal Airport offer appealing business opportunities. The Walkerton Clean Water Centre, a world class training facility for water system operators is located here. Brockton is home to the largest natural wetland in Southern Ontario; the Greenock Swamp, and is nestled on the banks of the beautiful Saugeen River, popular with both anglers and canoe enthusiasts.
