History of the Greenock Bridge 006 Project
In 2018, GM BluePlan was contracted to do the bridge and culvert inspections in Brant and Greenock. A 'Bridge Review Report' was submitted for each structure. The current bridge was constructed in 1906, which replaced a log trestle bridge. A detailed investigation and load evaluation was completed in 2017 by GM BluePlan which updated the load posting to 6, 12, and 19 tonnes. Another investigation and load evaluation was completed by GM BluePlan in 2020 as part of their bi-annual review.
In the 2020 evaluation, GM Blue Plan found significant structural damage, which resulted in the recommendation of immediate closure of the bridge.
At this time there is no public meeting scheduled. If a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) process is approved by Council, a notice of public meeting will be sent to residents affected by the closure and posted in the appropriate newspapers as well as be posted on this webpage. An EA only needs to be completed in the event of the removal or replacement of the bridge.
