The Municipality of Brockton is conducting Municipal and School Board Elections in 2018 for the 2018 to 2022 Council and School Board Term. It is your right and responsibility to vote in this election as the decisions made by your representatives will affect your community. Internet and Telephone Voting begins Monday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m. and ends Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m.

Eligibility
A person is eligible to vote in the upcoming Municipal and School Board Election if they:
Are a resident in the local municipality or are the owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
Are a Canadian citizen;
Are at least 18 years old; and
Are not prohibited from voting under subsection 17 (3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 or otherwise by law.
Subsection 17(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 prohibits the following persons from voting:
A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
A corporation;
A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity; and
A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90 (3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which the person was convicted.
A person may only vote once even if they own more than one property in the Brockton.
Voting and Voter Information Letters
The Municipality of Brockton will be using Internet and Telephone Voting for the 2018 Election. Paper ballots will not be used. Electors can vote anytime and anywhere with internet or telephone access between Monday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m.
All Electors will be mailed a Voter Information Letter with a Voter ID and PIN that will be required to vote online or by telephone. The Voter Information Letter describes how to vote and includes a complete list of all candidates for the 2018 Municipal and School Board Elections.
If you have not received your letter by October 4, 2018, please contact the Municipal Office. If you do not receive your letter, or the information on your Voter Information letter is incorrect, please visit the Municipal Office, a Voter Help Centre, or call our Voter Helpline at 519-881-2223 Ext. 138 or 1-877-885-8084 Ext. 138 before you begin voting.
Electors who enter their Voter ID, PIN and Date of Birth into the Telephone or Internet Voting System are declaring that they are eligible to vote in this election.
Voters’ List Revision Period - Are You On the Voters’ List?
It is your responsibility to ensure your name is on the Voters’ List and that your personal information is correct to ensure you receive a complete and correct Voter Information Letter. Electors with incorrect information on the Voters’ List will be unable to vote until they are added to the Voters’ List and are given a Voter Information Letter.
If you do not receive a Voter Information Letter or the information provided on your Voter Information Letter is incorrect please visit the Municipal Office or a Voter Help Centre. Proof of identity and residence is required to show you are qualified to vote. You will need to complete the appropriate form and you will then be provided with a Voter Information Letter.
If you receive a Voter Information Letter in error, for yourself, or for someone who is no longer at the address, return it to the attention of the Clerk at the Municipal Office, 100 Scott Street, Walkerton.
If I haven’t registered before Election Day and I’m not on the Voters’ List, can I still vote?
You can still vote in the 2018 Municipal and School Board Election if you have not registered or are not on the Voters’ List before voting begins. Anytime before end of Voting at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, you may visit a Voter Help Centre Location to register to vote using a piece of acceptable identification.
Mail Tampering - Criminal Offence and Prosecution
The Criminal Code of Canada states that tampering with the mail of an individual is a criminal offence and a person(s) found guilty is liable to a term of imprisonment not exceeding ten (10) years.
All voters that vote more than once, or who improperly use the Voter Information Letter shall be reported to the Ontario Provincial Police for further investigation as to possible corrupt practices under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, Section 89.

The Municipality of Brockton will be using Telephone and Internet Voting for the 2018 election. Paper ballots will not be used.
Vote anywhere you have access to the Internet or a Phone from Monday, October 15 at 8:30 a.m. until Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m.
Vote early to avoid higher volume activity periods near the end of the voting period.
