Mayor and Council
The Municipality's Procedural By-Law 2018-092 provide the rules of order and procedures for the Council and Committees of the Municipality of Brockton. The Procedural By-Law has been amended via the following By-Laws:
The Municipality of Brockton also have adopted a Council Code of Conduct as per By-Law 2022-172- Adopt Council Code of Conduct By-Law passed on November 29, 2022.
Role of Mayor |
- To act as Chief Executive Officer of the Municipality and as Chief Executive Officer shall:
- Uphold and promote the purposes of the Municipality;
- Promote public involvement in the Municipality's activities;
- Act as the representative of the Municipality both within and outside the Municipality, and promote the Municipality locally, nationally and internationally;
- Participate in and foster activities that enhance the economic, social and environmental well-being of the Municipality and its residents.
- To preside over Council meetings so that its business can be carried out efficiently and effectively;
- To provide leadership to the Council;
- To represent the Municipality at official functions;
- To carry out the duties of the Head of Council under the Municipal Act or any other Act;
- To act as Council's representative when dealing with other levels of government, their agencies and the private sector;
- To serve on the Council of the County of Bruce;
- To serve as an ex officio member of all committees or other body established or appointed by Council (the Mayor may vote and otherwise participate, unless prohibited by law, in the business of the committee of other body on the same basis as any other Committee member).

Role of Council |
- To represent the public and to consider the well-being and interests of the Municipality;
- To develop and evaluate policies and programs of the Municipality;
- To determine which services the Municipality provides;
- To ensure that administrative policies, practices and procedures and controllership policies, practices and procedures are in place to implement the decisions of Council;
- To ensure the accountability and transparency of the operations of the Municipality, including the activities of the senior management of the Municipality;
- To maintain the financial integrity of the Municipality; and
- To carry out the duties of Council under the Municipal Act or any other Act.
