Population Growth

Between the Census years of 2001 and 2011, the municipality had a net decrease of 226 residents (-2.3% growth); in comparison, Bruce County added 2,210 residents (3.5% growth), which was driven by communities along the Lake Huron shoreline like Port Elgin and Kincardine. Population and economic growth along the shoreline is proving to be beneficial for the municipality with many spin-off benefits such as new residential construction and supporting businesses. Although the population in Brockton is stable, the population in the town of Walkerton is projected to grow to nearly 6,000 residents by 2026.

In addition, the County of Bruce population is projected to grow at an average rate of 0.4% through to 2031.
