Cargill and District Community Fund Entranceway for "Community" Project
The Cargill Community Centre serves as the hub of Cargill’s community and is the primary destination for many community events. Cargill and District Community Fund (C.D.C.F.) are proud to announce the new entrance addition for the community centre, and invite public support as we take this next step in making the centre a viable facility to meet current and future needs of Brockton’s community.

The Entranceway was officially launched on June 22, 2019.
On October 15, 2019, staff brought forward Report Number FIN2019-35 - CDCF Cargill Community Centre Entranceway Project Status Update, which was approved by Brockton Council for information purposes.
On October 16, 2019 the Municipality and CDCF issued a Press Release sharing an update on the fundraising for the Cargill Community Centre Entranceway for “Community” project.
Project Background |
Over two years ago, the need became apparent to address energy inefficiency and accessibility issues. A decision was made to replace the outdated portion of the centre with a newly constructed addition, consisting of an expanded accessible entranceway, larger meeting room, orderly cloak room, and barrier-free washrooms to create a more useful and energy efficient space. Brockton Council approved the renovation to the Cargill Community Centre entranceway at their February 12, 2018 Council Meeting. The project is expected to cost $805,000, with the municipality committed to finance 40% of this project. The C.D.C.F. committee strives for the betterment of the Cargill community for everyone to enjoy. The committee are fundraising the remaining $485,000 for this project. Financial support through grants, sponsorships, and donations have raised $185,000 to date. A public campaign is being launched to raise the remaining $300,000. |
Donations |
A public campaign is being launched to raise the remaining $100,000. Donations can be dropped off, or mailed to the Municipality of Brockton, P. O. Box 68, 100 Scott Street, Walkerton, ON N0G 2V0. Elmwood Community Centre Kitchen Renovation Project
The Elmwood Community Center kitchen was constructed in 1967 and faces many challenges in its current state. The Elmwood Community Centre is undergoing renovations to their kitchen to meet accessibility requirements, and improve energy efficiency, work space ergonomics, fire suppression, ease of operation and improved sound quality for hall patrons.
This project is a partnership between the Municipality of Brockton, the Municipality of West Grey, and the Elmwood Community Centre Board.
A Request for Proposal was submitted in September 2018, and the Tender was awarded to Domm Construction Ltd. to begin work on the community centre renovations. Renovations were completed in April 2019.
The grand opening of the Elmwood Community Centre Kitchen was part of the Annual Meeting of the Elmwood and District Chamber of Commerce on Friday, April 12, 2019. A presentation on the Bob Misch Volunteer Award followed the grand opening. Shirley Young was the recipient of the Volunteer Award. View photos from the Ceremony in our Facebook Album.

Walkerton and District Optimist Club Park Fundraising Project
The Walkerton and District Optimist Club, in collaboration with the Municipality of Brockton, are working to develop an accessible park and playground equipment adjacent to the Walkerton Arena.
Project History | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
The project was initiated in February 2017 between the Walkerton and District Optimist Club and Community Improvement Committee. Discussions took place, and an application was submitted to the Spruce the Bruce Grant in February 2018 for the playground by the Community Improvement Committee. In August 2018, Council approved a 10 year interest free loan to Optimist Club for $76,800.00 to bridge finance the purchase of accessible playground equipment and other park upgrades as required. The accessible playground set was ordered in October 2018, and delivery and installation is projected for fall 2019. In March 2019, Road realignment and site work were approved in principle through the 2019 Municipal Budget. Grants were received, and a tender process has commenced for these components, which will require final Council approval. |
