In 2018, Parks and Recreation will be planning and develop the planting of low maintenance, Bee and Butterfly pods in several phases. Areas that have been identified as key locations included, behind the recycling station, Bend Park, the Nature Park and north east of the soccer fields. The goal is to provide a natural habitat for the declining pollenating population.
In 2019, phase 2 begin with the development of 3 educational, interactive totem poles. The totem poles will be place throughout the community to educate the public on bees and butterflies. The totem poles will be in place in the spring of 2020.
Thank you to Community Foundation Grey Bruce for their finacial support for both phases. The Brockton Environmental Advisory Committee, Rotary Club of Walkerton, Walkerton Horticulture Society and Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority also contributed resources to this project.
The various phases will be implemented as funds allow.
