Swimming Lesson registration will be Available ONLINE on Monday April 22 or in person/phone on Tuesday April 23.

General Information

Swimming Lessons

  • Sessions run daily, Monday through Friday, for a two week period
  • In the event of thunder or lightening the lesson will be cancelled

Swimming Lesson Sessions:

  • Session 1 - June 10, 2019 to June 21, 2019 - Evenings Only
  • Session 2 - July 1, 2019  to July 12, 2019 -  Mornings and Evenings
  • Session 3 - July 15, 2019 to July 26, 2019 - Mornings and Evenings
  • Session 4 - July 29, 2019  to August 9, 2019 - Mornings Only
  • Session 5 - August 12, 2019  to August 23, 2019 - Evenings Only
 Lifesaving Society Levels
 

Brockton Parks and Recreation is now offering swimming lessons fromthe Lifesaving Society. While the names of our classes have changes, our committment toproviding excellent instruction remains the same. 

Please see the chart below to identify which level your child should register for the upcoming season.

We have outlined the Lifesaving Levels below. For more information about these programs visit the Lifesaving Society website.

 Description

 Sea Otter

 Preschool A (Parent for first 3-5 lesson)

  • 3 - 5 years
  • Preschoolers develop a foundation of water skills with the Instructors. Swimmers jump into chest-deep water assisted. Floating on front and back, and back glides with assistance for 3 seconds. Shallow water movement wearing a PFD. Fitness swim 1 - 2 m assisted.
  • Parent have the option of going in the water for the first 5 lessons

 

 Salamander

  Preschool B (without Parents)

 

  •  3 - 5 years
  •  Preschoolers jump into chest-deep water and get in and get out wearing a PFD. They submerge and exhale under water. They glide on front and back 3m and with a buoyant aid will flutter kick on back 5 m. Fitness swim 2-4m unassisted.

 Sunfish

 Preschool C (without Parent)

 

  • 3 - 5 years
  • Preschoolers try both a jump and a side roll into deep water while wearing a PFD. They recover objects from the bottom in waist-deep water. They work on kicking and gliding through the water on front and back unassisted. Fitness swim 5 - 7 m unassisted.

  • 30-minute lesson
  • These beginners will become comfortable jumping into water with and without a lifejacket. They'll learn to open their eyes, exhale and hold their breath underwater. They'll work on floats, glides and kicking through the water on their front and back.

  • 30-minute lesson
  • These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They'll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10 m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x 5 m).

  • 30-minute lesson
  • These advanced beginners will jump into deeper water, and learn to be comfortable falling sideways into the water wearing a lifejacket. They'll be able to support themselves at the surface without an aid, learn whip kick, swim 10 m on their front and back, and be introduced to flutter kick interval training (4 x 5 m).

  • 30-minute lesson
  • These junior swimmers will dive and do in-water front somersaults and handstands. They'll work on 15 m of front crawl, back crawl and 10 m of whip kick. Flutter kick interval training increases to 4 x 15 m.

Swim Kids 5

 Swimmer 4

  • 30-minute lesson
  •  These intermediate swimmers will swim 5 m underwater and lengths of front, back crawl, whip kick, and breaststroke arms with breathing. Their new bag of tricks includes the completion of the Canadian Swim to Survive® Standard. They'll cap it all off with front crawl sprints over 25 m and 4 x 25 m front or back crawl interval training.

  • 45-minute lesson
  • These swimmers will master shallow dives, cannonball entries, eggbeater kicks, and in-water backward somersaults. They'll refine their front and back crawl over 50 m swims of each, and breaststroke over 25 m. Then they'll pick up the pace in 25 m sprints and two interval training bouts: 4 x 50 m front or back crawl; and 4 x 15 m breaststroke.

Swimmer 6 

 

  • 45-minute lesson
  • These advanced swimmers will rise to the challenge of sophisticated aquatic skills including stride entries, compact jumps and lifesaving kicks like eggbeater and scissor kick. They'll develop strength and power in head-up breaststroke sprints over 25 m. They'll easily swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, and they'll complain about the 300 m workout.

  • 45-minute lesson
  • 6+ years. Intermediate swimmers master dolphin kick, diving off of blocks and eggbeater. They are introduced to sculling and continue to maximize efficiency in front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Fitness swim is 300m.

  • 45-minute lesson
  • 8+ years. Swimmers rise to the challenge of advanced aquatic skills including head and foot first surface dives and a 25m obstacle swim. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS and treatment for bleeding. They swim lengths of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Fitness swim is 350m.

  • 1-hour lesson

  • 8+ years. Swimmers continue stroke development with 75m swims of front crawl, back crawl and breast stroke. Lifesaving skills include a rescue with a buoyant aid and a timed object support. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Fitness swim is 500m.

  • 1-hour lesson
  • Advanced Swimmers develop each stroke over 100m.  They also learn lifesaving skills such as entries with aidsand removals of unconscious victims.  First aid focuses on treatment of victims with bone and joint injuriesand resporatory emergerncies.  Swimming drills develop a strong lifesacing foundation.  Fitness swim is 600m.

 Private Lessons
 Private lessons for all ages are available by request. Private lessons are perfect for children who require one-on-one instruction, people who want to overcome a fear of the water, adults who want to strengthen their swimming skills, and people of different ability levels.

Private Lessons Fee: $35.00 per half hour of instruction per swimmer

Semi Private Lessons:$25.00 per half hour of instruction per person, maximum two swimmers
