The 5 R's

We can all do our part to reduce the waste that ends up in our landfills:

  • Refuse what you do not need.
  • Reduce what you do need.
  • Reuse what you consume.
  • Recycle what you cannot Refuse, Reduce, or Reuse.
  • Rot (compost) the rest!

Waste & Garbage Collection

  • Must be placed in a clear plastic bag (completely transparent and colourless).
  • Only one opaque, solid colour, privacy bag (no larger than 20 inches x 22 inches (50 cm x 55 cm), approximately the size of a kitchen catcher or grocery bag) is allowed inside each clear bag to hold health or hygiene waste. You can also choose to set your garbage outside in a trash can.
  • Recyclables, household hazardous waste, electronic waste or leaf and yard waste items are banned from the landfill. If these items are in your household waste bag it will not be picked-up. If your waste is not collected, your bag tag will be marked to explain why.
  • The maximum weight per bag is 40 pounds (18 kg).
  • Place your bag(s) out by 7:00 a.m.
  • Bag tags must be affixed to household garbage bags.

Household Waste Management Fee

Each household in Brockton is charged an annual Waste Management Fee. This fee is applied to the Final Property Tax Bill.

Beginning in 2012 this fee was applied annually to Final Property Tax Bills for all residential properties.

The funds collected through this Waste Management Fee are set aside in a reserve fund to deal with costs related to future landfill closure and capital expenditures.  Fees do not offset waste collection or disposal costs in the current operating budget.

Exemptions for Multi-Residential Properties

If you own a multi-residential building and your third party waste hauler or collector DOES NOT dispose of waste in Municipality of Brockton landfills, you can apply for an exemption to the Waste Management Fee.

To apply for an exemption, please complete the following form and submit it to the Municipal Office.
