Contract Elections Assistant

The Municipality of Brockton invites qualified applicants for the Contract Elections Assistant position. This is a full-time 5 month contract position starting June 2018 and concluding November 2, 2018.

The Elections Assistant shall be responsible for assisting the Clerks Department in the planning and execution of the 2018 Municipal and School Board Election.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Works with CAO/Clerk and Deputy Clerk to assist with key elements of the election work plan.
  • Be familiar with and follow all election and related operational policies and procedures.
  • Acts as the key contact for requests for election information from the public, co-workers, and other agencies.
  • Assist with the development and distribution of communication materials including public notices, media releases, website content, posters, social media posts, presentations etc.
  • Assist with registration of voters.
  • Prepare, procure, distribute, collect and secure necessary documentation, forms, signage, and other materials.
  • Perform revisions to Preliminary List of Electors; work with CAO/Clerk and Deputy Clerk to revise, maintain, finalize, produce and distribute Voters’ List.
  • Assist in setting up the telephone and internet voting system.
  • Staff after hours and/or off-site Voter Information Booth and Voter Assistance locations and staff Voter Help Centre October 13 - 22, 2018; assist electors with voting as requested.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks in support of the elections process; prepare email and letter correspondence and reports; maintain records.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks in support of the Clerks Department; prepare email and letter correspondence and reports; maintain records etc.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Ability to work varying hours as required during the election and pre-election period.
  • Knowledge and experience working in an election, especially a municipal election, is an asset.
  • Effective planning, time management, proof reading, research, and analytical reasoning skills; excellent customer service and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent skills in MS Office software and comfortable learning new software.
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Elections Act, the Municipal Elections Modernization Act, the Municipal Act and the Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act would be considered an asset.

Bruce County Public Works Scholarship

The Bruce County Public Works Association is accepting applications from outstanding students in Bruce County enrolled in a program related to public works. One scholarship, valued at $1,000, will be presented to a student who has completed one or more years of post-secondary education in their program.

Selection is based on a combination of strong academic achievement, a demonstrated interest in public works at a municipal or county level, and leadership potential through extracurricular or volunteer activities. Interested students from Bruce County who have completed at least one year are invited to apply.
