Film Plastics

Over 45,000 Pounds of Film Plastics Diverted from Brockton's Landfills!

In June 2014 Brockton's Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) launched a pilot project to recycle #2 HDPE and #4 LDPE film plastics. The pilot project was a huge success and Brockton Council agreed to fund the project as a permanent recycling initiative beginning in 2017.

Since June 2014 over 45,000 pounds (or 20,411 kg) of film plastics have been diverted from Brockton's landfills.

Film plastics make up a large portion the household waste we send to our landfills. Recycling them closes the loop, recycling consumer packaging that can then be remanufactured into new materials.

To reduce your use of these plastics, avoid using what cannot be recycled in Brockton:

  • bring your own container for bulk or take-out foods
  • encourage food producers, manufacturers and retailers to switch to reusable, recyclable or compostable alternatives

How to Recycle Your Film Plastics

All plastic must be:

  • Clean - remove all food residue
  • Dry - if you rinse it, let it dry
  • Empty - remove paper, stickers and receipts
  • Tie in a Bag - fill an empty grocery or retail bag with plastics and tie tightly.
Place only bagged plastics in the bin. Loose plastics could be spilled out of the bin during pick-up.
