Red Cross Swim Preschool - Ages 1- 6

Red Cross Swim Preschool - Ages 1 to 6

 Level

Description 

Tots

  • Ages 1-3
  • Parented
  • Focuses on increasing your toddler's comfort moving and playing in the water, and teaches parents how to be water safe with their little one
  • Progression based on age

Sea Otter

  • Ages 3-5
  • Unparented
  • Focuses on introducing basic swimming skills through instructor-assisted games and activities
  • Progression based on completion of performance criteria

Salamander

  • Ages 3-5
  • Unparented
  • In this level, your child will begin to swim short distances on their own
  • Progression based on completion of performance criteria

Sunfish

  • Ages 3-6
  • Unparented
  • Focuses on continuing to build your child's independent swimming strength with longer distance swims and introduces more advanced skills like side glide
  • Progression based on completion of performance criteria

Red Cross Swim Kids - Ages 6 and Up

Red Cross Swim Kids - Ages 6 and Up

Level

Description

Swim Kids 1

  • 30-minute lesson
  • Floats and glides are the focus, as well as water safety. Students will be required to swim short distances on their own.

Swim Kids 2

  • 30-minute lesson
  • Glides are strengthened with longer distances, and side glide, deep water activities and information about EMS are introduced.

Swim Kids 3

  • 30-minute lesson
  • Begins to introduce the building blocks for front crawl and diving, and water safety knowledge such as when and where to swim. Distance swim is one full width of the pool (15m).

Swim Kids 4

  • 30-minute lesson
  • Front crawl is introduced, and swimmers begin to learn the skills required for back crawl. Water safety activities include safe diving and how to contact EMS. Distance swim is one full length of the pool (25m).

Swim Kids 5

  • 45-minute lesson
  • Back crawl and whip kick are introduced. Swimmers learn about safe boating and staying warm in and around the water, and basic self-rescue skills. Distance swim is two lengths of the pool (50m).

Swim Kids 6

  • 45-minute lesson
  • Elementary back stroke is introduced. Swimmers learn how to recognize a distressed swimmer and throw them an assist. Distance swim is three lengths of the pool (75m).

Swim Kids 7

  • 45-minute lesson
  • Swimmers begin to learn the foundational skills for breast stroke. Swimmers learn to recognize an airway obstruction in a conscious victim, and how to perform the required first aid. Distance swim is six lengths of the pool (150m).

Swim Kids 8

  • 45-minute lesson
  • Breast stroke is introduced, and swimmers learn to perform rescue breathing on unconscious adult and child victims. Distance swim is twelve lengths of the pool (300m).

Swim Kids 9

  • 1-hour lesson
  • Foundational skills for sidestroke are introduced, and participants learn about possible complications associated with rescue breathing. Participants also discuss making wise water safety choices despite peer influence. Distance swim is sixteen lengths of the pool (400m).

Swim Kids 10

  • 1-hour lesson
  • Sidestroke is introduced, and swimmers learn how to safely rescue a victim who has fallen through ice. Participants will discuss next steps required if they want to continue on to lifesaving and lifeguarding. Distance swim is twenty lengths of the pool (500m).

Private Lessons

Private lessons for all ages are available by request. Private lessons are perfect for children who require one-on-one instruction, people who want to overcome a fear of the water, adults who want to strengthen their swimming skills, and people of different ability levels.

Private Lessons Fee: $25.00 per half hour of instruction
