Walkerton & District Chamber of Commerce Committees

The Walkerton & District Chamber of Commerce is involved in several committees that help promote and develop trade and commerce within the Walkerton area, and improve the economic, civil and social welfare of the district. For more information on any of these committees, please call 519-881-3413.

Promotions Committee - The committee's main focus is to promote Shop Walkerton initiatives. Businesses who participate in the various promotions receive advertising, and through some promotions they even offer their customers a chance to win various prizes. Our Christmas promotion is an exciting program that sees close to $5,000 in prizes given to 11 lucky shoppers!

Programs: Easter promotion, Sensational Service (summer promotion), Battle of the Businesses (a fun competition among businesses during Buskers Festival), Fall Decorating Kits (for sale to support advertising Walkerton & area businesses), Christmas Shoppers Night, Christmas Shopping Challenge, and various other advertising programs including the production of postcards, a telephone insert business directory and the reusable shopping bags.

Committee members: Tracey Cassidy (chair), Christine Brandt (secretary) Shelley Crummer, Heather Keip, Neil Kirstine, Bonnie Kraemer, Louise Mancell, Elaine Schaab, Sharon Strucke and April Wells.

Image Committee - The committee is committed to keeping Walkerton's downtown and uptown thriving and looking its best. Members meet monthly in order to keep on top of its various projects which include the Walkerton Farmers' Market held each Friday of the summer; Brockton's Buskers Festival, a day-long event that sees world-class busker performers entertain on the main street along with various children's activities; and streetscape improvements for our business districts as well as Christmas lighting projects.

Programs: Streetscape improvements include murals, banners, benches, garbage receptacles, flower planters and more; Farmers' Market each Friday from Victoria Day weekend to Labour Day weekend; Buskers Festival held the third Saturday in August; Christmas lighting projects at various locations around town.

Committee members: Dennis Moran (chair), Neil Kirstine (vice-chair), Tracey Cassidy (secretary), Tim Mancell (municipal council representative), Richard Radford (municipal CAO), Brian Folmer, Laurie Knox, Randy Saunders, Nancy Sweiger and Brian Weber.

Buskers Festival Executive - This is a sub-committee of the Image Committee which ensures the annual festival is a must-see event in Brockton! Members include: Tracey Cassidy (chair), Christine Brandt, Bonnie Kraemer, Elaine Schaab, Tim Mancell and Tom Traversy.

Farmers' Market - This is a sub-committee of the Image Committee which ensures the smooth operation of the market as well as a variety of vendors and satisfied shoppers. Members include: Tim Mancell (chair), and Neil Kirstine.

Streetscape - This is a sub-committee of the Image Committee which focuses on various beautification projects for our business district, including murals, benches, flower planters, signage and more. Members include: Brian Folmer (chair), Tracey Cassidy and Tim Mancell.

S.Co.B.E. Awards Committee - recognizing local businesses for their success and achievements. Chamber representatives include Bonnie Kraemer and Christine Brandt.

Website Committee - focused on keeping the Brockton and Chamber website current and informative

Communications Committee - keeping the communication lines open between Brockton committees and departments

Doors Open Walkerton & Area - This event celebrates Brockton's heritage and historic architecture. Taking place September 25, 2010 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Committee members include Ted Cobean (chair), Tracey Cassidy & Christine Brandt (administration), Dan Wong, Sharon Vivian, Barb Bogdon, Mary Ramsay, and Henry Simpson.

Santa Claus Parade Committee - Bringing Santa Claus to town, this committee ensures there is music, lights and laughter during the annual nighttime parade which takes place the last Saturday in November at 7 p.m. Committee members include: Tracey Cassidy (secretary), Dennis Moran, Randy Saunders, Jeff Osborne and Ken Strucke.

Chamber of Commerce representatives also play an active role in various other community committees.
